To get started, combine the broccoli florets, minced garlic, diced onion, and water in a large skillet over medium heat. Mix the vegetables with a wooden spoon every few minutes until the florets become tender.

Next, prepare the broccoli mash by transferring the cooked veggies into a blender and pulse on high for three minutes. Add in the salt and pepper to taste, then set the broccoli mash aside.
In the same skillet, grease the pan with a bit of olive oil and sear the scallops in a single layer for three minutes on each side. When the scallops begin to turn golden brown, remove them from the pan and set aside.
